Olalla Dominguez Liste, school sweetheart
Fernando Torres and Olalla Dominguez Liste met at the Fernando de los Rios school in Fuenlabrada in 1998. Fernando was 14. He was one year above Olalla, they were in different classes. They were introduced through a classmate of Fernando who turned out to be the brother of Olalla. As Fernando wrote in his 2015 autobiography, on the first evening of knowing her he already understood: I met a person I want to spend my whole life with. I was fourteen and as sure of it as of any football match.
They were together for seven years before Fernando proposed. It happened in October 2008, four months after the Euro victory. Fernando bought a ring at the Jose Pauers jewelry store in Madrid for 32,000 euros, not particularly expensive for a footballer of his level but important: the ring had a heart-cut stone. Fernando proposed on the balcony of their house in Boadilla del Monte, one of the elite suburbs of Madrid where he had lived since 2004.
The wedding was on May 27, 2009 at the Santa Maria Magdalena church in La Moraleja (another elite Madrid suburb). The ceremony was intimate: 70 guests of whom footballers were only five (Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol, Sergio Ramos, Casillas), plus some friends from the La Ruta neighborhood in Fuenlabrada. The press was not invited. Wedding photos reached Spanish tabloids three weeks later through a photographer Fernando has never publicly named.

Three children
Torres has three children, each born in different periods of his career and each associated with specific moments of his biography. The eldest is Nora, born July 8, 2009 in Liverpool. Torres took three days off from Liverpool and was at the Litchfield clinic with Olalla. In his autobiography he wrote: Nora arrived a month after the wedding, and I still cannot believe the first child was born in the period when I had the most work. Torres has a tattoo of her birth date on the right side of his chest, in Roman numerals.
The middle child is their son Leo (full name Leonardo Andres), born December 6, 2010 in Madrid. Torres and Olalla were in Spain on the winter break. Leo is the child most discussed on social media now: he is 15 and plays in the youth team of Atletico Madrid. His coach is Pablo Diaz, Torres's former Atletico teammate from the first spell. In 2026 Leo became a candidate for the Spain youth under-16 call-up.
The youngest is a daughter, Elo (Eloisa), born October 10, 2016 in Madrid, four years after Fernando returned to Atletico. Elo is the child born during the time Torres was known not as a striker but as the dad who plays at Atletico but takes us to the park. Torres has a tattoo of her birth date on the left shoulder.
Even at twenty I knew I would be a father. It was not planned, it was the same self-knowledge as understanding I would be an Atletico striker.

Red Pepper and the children birthdays
Little has been written about Fernando's rock band, but the information has made it to Spanish publications. The band is called Red Pepper, and it is five childhood friends from the La Ruta neighborhood in Fuenlabrada. They all grew up together, played football on the same square, studied at the same school, went to the same corner shop for bread. They formed the band in 2010, nearly ten years after Torres left for Liverpool. They would meet twice a year, around Christmas when Fernando came to Spain, and in the summer during his vacation.
Torres plays bass guitar in the band. He started learning in 2007 in Liverpool because he was bored alone in the evenings (Olalla and Nora had not yet moved from Spain). He received private lessons from Paul McLane, a British bassist. In the band, Torres does not play lead, does not sing, does not write songs. He simply plays the bassline in cover versions of 1980s Spanish rock bands (Hombres G, Siniestro Total, Kortatu). Sometimes they do AC/DC and Metallica covers.
Since 2020, after retirement, Red Pepper has met more often, once a month. There is a small rehearsal room in Fuenlabrada under the La Rampa bar where they spend two hours on Saturdays. Occasionally they play closed concerts for the staff of the Atletico club shop (2024), for the Fuenlabrada city hall employees (2023, when Fernando received the honorary citizenship of the district). Public concerts have never happened.

Tattoos
Fernando Torres has about ten tattoos, not one of them decorative. All have meaning. The most famous is his own name Fernando on the right forearm, which he did in 2008 after the Euro victory. The font is a special gothic, done by tattoo artist Nick Frolick in Liverpool. Fernando displays this tattoo after each goal, kissing it.
On the inside of his right wrist is the tattoo VI (in Roman numerals), the sixth day of the month on which his son Leo was born. On the left wrist is VIII, the eighth day on which Nora was born. On the left shoulder is X, the tenth on which Elo was born. On the right shoulder blade is a tattoo with the Olalla name (OLALLA in print letters). This is the oldest tattoo. Fernando did it in 2003 when he was 19 and he and Olalla were still just dating.
On the inside of his thigh Torres has a tattoo with the number 9, his club number at Atletico and Liverpool. The nine is in Celtic style, in a design similar to the Liverpool emblem. He did this tattoo the day of signing with Liverpool in 2007, the morning after flying to England. The tattoo is not public, Fernando does not show it.
On the inside left of his chest is a quote from a Hombres G song: Si pudiera despertar, viviria otra vez (If I could wake up, I would live again). This was the favorite song of his grandfather Eduardo, who died in 2004, a month after Fernando received the Atletico captain armband.

Friendships with national team partners
Torres has strong friendships with several players of the Spanish national team of his generation. The closest is with Sergio Ramos. They met in 2005 when Ramos moved from Sevilla to Real Madrid, and Torres was already the Atletico captain. They should have become opponents (the Madrid derby is antagonism to the death), but in the national team they became friends. Torres was a witness at the Ramos wedding in 2019. Ramos is the godfather of Elo in 2016.
Iker Casillas is another important friendship. They are not close in a day-to-day sense (different cities, different habits), but they meet once or twice a year, on vacation in Marbella, at charity tournaments. Casillas said in Movistar+ in 2023: Fernando is one of the few people of my generation with whom I can talk about anything and be sure it stays between us. That is rare in our lives.
Of those he played with at club level, Steven Gerrard. Their friendship started at Liverpool in 2007 and did not end after Torres moved to Chelsea. They meet once a year, at a Liverpool veterans charity match, or in Spain when Gerrard comes on vacation. In 2024 Gerrard was the main guest at the 40th birthday of Torres, coming to Madrid with his family for three days.
Charity
Torres runs his own charitable foundation, Fundacion Fernando Torres, which has operated since 2010. The mission of the foundation is to support youth football sections in low-income districts in Madrid and Fuenlabrada. The foundation provides free training sessions, sports uniforms, transport to away matches. Around 400 children a year take part in the program.
Since 2020, the foundation also runs a psychological support program for former footballers who faced difficulties after retirement: addictions, depression, financial problems. The program is closed, Torres has never named former footballers he supported. According to his 2024 Marca interview, in four years of operation the program has helped more than 20 former footballers from Spain.
In 2026 Torres opened the Football Academy named after himself in Fuenlabrada, a free institution for children from the La Ruta neighborhood where he grew up. The academy prepares children for admission to youth sections of professional clubs. In the first intake there are 60 children. Coaches are graduates of the Atletico academy who work in the project on a volunteer basis.
The money I earned in football is big. But I never wanted to simply own it. I wanted to return it to the neighborhoods where I was made a person.
